  • What is the projected opening date for The Woodlands?
    • Answer:  The Woodlands is projected to open in spring 2008.

  • What does The Woodlands' refundable entrance fee entitle me to?
    • Answer: The Woodlands' refundable entrance fee allows all residents to enjoy today while they plan for their future. The entrance fee, along with the monthly fee, entitles you to all the benefits of a spacious and beautiful apartment home, great amenities, impeccable services, use of all community spaces and, if needed, priority access to a complete continuum of professional and compassionate care. Such care includes assisted living and Alzheimer's care at The Gardens and skilled nursing care at the Fairfax Nursing Center just blocks away.

Because The Woodlands is an investment, your apartment home will be released if you relocate. Your entry fee will be refunded to you or to your estate as soon as the new resident places a refundable entrance fee on the residence.

  • What floor plan designs can I choose from for my apartment home, and what are some of the special features?
    • Answer: The residences at The Woodlands are some of the largest you will find in senior living. There are 15 different plans - everything from comfortable one-bedrooms to oversized two-bedrooms with separate dining rooms and dens - so you shouldn't have any trouble finding a design to meet your taste and budget. Each residence features a fully equipped kitchen, wall-to-wall carpet with a variety of color selections, a choice of finishes for kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, window treatments, laundry rooms, ceramic-tiled baths, individually controlled heating and cooling and cable wiring. You will also find a state-of-the-art emergency response system as well as smoke alarm and sprinkler system. A voice recognition system will allow you to screen visitors prior to their arrival at your residence.

Residences come complete with lovely views, and nearly all will have balconies from which to enjoy the natural beauty of the grounds. In addition to your private residence, you will have the benefit of the ample shared community space designed exclusively for our residents.

Health Care and Wellness Programs:

  • Are health care services available for residents at The Woodlands?
    • Answer: The Woodlands is designed for healthy, active adults. However, sometimes health needs change. In the event that you, as an independent healthy resident, require health care, it is available on a pay-as-you-need-it, priority basis. Should you require more intensive care, The Gardens and the Fairfax Nursing Center are both licensed by the State of Virginia to provide a full spectrum of assisted living and skilled nursing care services. The Woodlands unique Recovery Care Program provides residents with a lifetime five free days of assisted living at The Gardens. This can benefit you if you are returning from a hospital stay and require recuperative time before returning to your normal routine in your own residence.

Residents who require assistance with daily living activities such as dressing, bathing and medication reminders can select an attractive suite next door at The Gardens, which can be personalized with your own furnishings and family treasures. You'll enjoy beautifully prepared meals in the company of friends in your own dining room, and there will be many opportunities each day to participate in entertaining and enriching activity.

Licensed skilled nursing is available if you require more intensive care. At the nearby Fairfax Nursing Center compassionate professionals treat each resident with dignity and respect. All are carefully recruited and trained, and many have been providing care at the center for a number of years.

The Woodlands also provides an ongoing wellness program designed to keep residents healthy and fit. In addition, a choice of rehabilitative therapies is offered to residents on a fee-for-service basis, and can be billed to you monthly.

  • What happens if I need to move temporarily to assisted living or to the nursing center?
    • Answer: Should you require a temporary move to assisted living or to a nursing center, we can make the arrangements for a comfortable move to The Gardens or the Fairfax Nursing Center. The financial arrangements would be made at the time of the move.
  • What happens if my spouse needs additional care and I am fortunate enough to remain healthy?
    • Answer: If such a move would become necessary, you could continue to live independently and your spouse would have the opportunity to stay close to you at The Gardens or the Fairfax Nursing Center. Van service is provided on a regular basis to the nursing center so you could visit as often and for as long as you like.

If both of you should need to leave The Woodlands for health reasons, The Woodlands management would do everything possible to assist you and your family in making the necessary arrangements. Should you choose to stay close by at The Gardens or the Fairfax Nursing Center, you would be entitled to priority access as a resident in good standing at The Woodlands.

  • Will I need a long-term care insurance policy at The Woodlands?
    • Answer: Our refundable entrance fee and our priority access to excellent health care bring a high degree of comfort and security for those doing financial pre-planning. Many residents may choose to obtain or maintain long-term care policies for additional assurance. Individuals should consult with their insurance advisor to determine if a long-term care policy is right for them.

  • What happens to the monthly fee if the resident is away part of the year?
    • Answer: Many operating costs must be covered each month in order to provide the services promised to all residents of The Woodlands. Most of these do not vary when a resident is away from the community. Staffing, maintenance and utilities are a few examples of relatively fixed operating expenses. However, if  you are away from the community for more than seven consecutive days, you are eligible for a partial credit in an amount to be determined by management. The credit would begin to apply after the seventh day of absence from the community.

  • What happens to the refundable deposit if the resident's plans change before The Woodlands opens or before moving in?

Answer: Once the 10% deposit is made and the Resident Agreement is signed, a full refund will be made:

    - if contract termination is desired for other than health change reasons, and it is requested more than 30 days after the contract was signed.

In the event of a documented health care change, a full refund will be made.

When the community is ready to open, or has already opened, and a resident's move has been scheduled will be made:

    - if it is requested more than 30 days after the contract was signed, and when the same residence has been contracted for by another person.

Any special costs incurred for modifications and/or refurbishing requested by the initial depositor will be due and can be paid directly or deducted from refundable entrance fee.
